Our APPLE TOURS are a wonderful way to educate your children and to give them a time to enjoy a fresh air rural experience. We provide a fun, interactive way to learn how apples grow, how to pick them, and how we make them into fresh apple cider. And of course, the taste of a tree-ripened apple can't be beat!
The APPLE TOUR consists of two parts:
1. Orchard Tour: Everyone rides the tractor and
wagon out to the orchard. After an age appropriate talk on apples,
each child will be given an apple bag to fill with their very own apples
picked right off the tree.
2. Cider Making: Children participate in an interactive
demonstration of an old-fashioned cider operation. Each child
takes a turn rolling an apple into the grinder. The resulting
pomace is squeezed to make fresh apple cider on our hand-operated press.
We finish by taste-testing our pasteurized commercial Mills Apple Farm
Cider made fresh here on the farm.
We plan our program to take about 1½ hours total. This usually
includes time for the children to play and to visit with
and feed the animals.
There is a fee per child (please call for current fee). There is
no charge for teachers or parents, but they pay for any apples they
choose to take home.
Educational Tours are available Tuesday through Thursday, at 9:30 AM, 11:00 AM, and 12:30 AM.
On weekends you are welcome to bring your group to the farm to ride the wagons to the orchard, pick apples, visit the animals, and play. Picnic areas are available. There is no charge for these unguided visits other than for the apples you pick.
Reservations are required for weekday tours.
